  • Turnip question Snowball & Atlantic

I'm growing both these varieties and have watched them grow since March. Now the Atlantic are lovely and a bit bigger than golf ball siet, excellent. The Snowball however have NO growth except for the leaves!! Whay do you think that is? I was wondering whether I sowed them too close to the surface, but I did so just as for Atlantic. Any ideas??

Not sure about atlantic but snowball are pretty small anyway, ping pong ball sized the last time I tried them.

Yes I was expecting that sort of size. But there was nothing, no sign of a growing 'bulb' at all! Anyway I'm going to rip them out and have another go. BTW the Atlantic are beautiful although my other half thinks they're too 'peppery'.

Don't just chuck them. I had a lovely curry a few weeks ago made from turnip and radish greens

Think it was called 'gumbo' or some such. Some african thing they cook out of season when all they've got is green bits and stringy chickens

I have the same issue with Snowball. From the ground, I get a single thin stalk which then splits into several leafy stalks. Presumably, the single thin stalk is supposed to swell into the turnip? According to T&M (Turnip : Snowball (Seeds)), it is supposed to crop in 40 days. Is this just for turnip tops or is it for the turnip as well?
