  • Tumbling toms, dwarf french bean & dwarf runner bean

    Hi,

I want to put my tumbling tom tomatoes in a hanging basket this year but have no idea how many plants i could put in one. Would it be just the one?
Also im growing dwarf french beans but dont know if they will need any support, do they? Or are they fine on their own in a pot? Again will it be just one to a pot? and FINALLY im also grwoing dwarf runner beans (hestia) do they need to be one plant per pot?
Yes im new at this game ) Biggest success was runner beans last year but they grew too plantiful & too large so going for mini versions this year!!

    Thanks for any help.

I would just put one tom per basket. They get quite big and are very thirsty. I half buried a bottle with the bottom cut off to help with watering too.

Chop the bottom of the bottle and take off the lid, then bury it top-end down. It makes a a funnel. That way you can fill the bottle up when you water and it's much easier than trying to get water to stay on the surface of the basket long enough to soak in

Also useful for your beans as they can get very thirsty.

One or more beans to a pot depends on the size of your pot. The dwarf runner will need cane(s) and when I grew dwarf french beans I found they were happy with some twiggy sticks to support them.

It depends on the variety. Some are very dwarf, and some are semi-climbers. I plant mine about 5"-9" apart

I grew Hestia a couple of years ago. Put 3 in a 12" bucket. They produced fairly well and did not need any support. Dwarf French I have been planting 9" apart and give the same support as Suky said.
