  • Trod on courgette vine, can it be repaired?

    Hallo,

Inspecting my trailling courgettes today i accidentally stepped on the main growing vine with my full weight. It's completely flattened - but not severed. For the meantime i've wrapped the damaged portion in masking tape... is there anything i can do?

Keep your fingers crossed, and be very careful in future.

although this is my first year growing courgettes, I've found them to be pretty resilient so far. One of my plants main stem split lengthways almost the whole length of the plant! Still going strong and giving fruit! Hope you's is ok too.

Ah, now if they were in a raised bed that wouldn't have happened . I've repaired many plants using sticks and sticky tape , sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't . You will just have to wait and see , hope it is fine tho . I have 10 courgettes all doing nicely ( i eat a lot of them before anyone wonders why i grow so many ) .

I did similar (snapped the main stem) on a pumpkin, the stem has sprouted a new growth (turned into a full blown stem) - so now has two on the go. Both are flowering.. I daren't move it, so just letting it ramble where it wants to now.. I've secured the stem with canes either side to stop it moving in wind, etc as a heavy gust will snap it completely off. Not sure if I'll get anything, but we'll see! Guess the only thing you can do is wait, as what's already been said!

Thanks. Fingers crossed! Next year i'll be sure to grow a bush variety from a proper seed company!
