Default Is it too late?

I haven't planned very well this year (my first veggie year!). I've got loads of stuff growing for the summer, but now that I've harvested my onions, and the brocolli looks like its nearly finished, I'm going to have big gaps.

I've put my leeks where my new potatoes were, but I'm not sure what to do with the rest. I'm assuming I probably can't put more leeks where the onions have been as they'd be the same family -would that be right or is it a possibility as I've still got some leeks that need planting on?

And whatr could I sow now that I could use for the winter? or is it too late? I suppose I could leave a patch to plant garlic in the autumn? Any other ideas?

Must plan better next year!!!!

Hi Vicki, how about turnips? They can be sown in August & harvested anytime from October onwards as they like cool weather.

Some of the spring cabage can be sown now ready for ... Spring

Also, October is a good time to plant Japanese (overwinter) onions they'll be ready to harvest july next year, Broad beans - Aquadulce or Super Aqudulcie if you have a sheltered site or The Sutton if it's a bit on the windy side as it's a shorter grower. If you've got some cloches you could try sowing some early carrots & peas.

If you're in to Salads then some of the oriental greens would be ok I think - never tried them so can't say.

Hope this helps

im just going by trial and error. i havent planted enough beans as i wasnt sure how much they would produce. i read that the latest you can sow is first week in july but ive been sowing right up til now and im going to put the last ones in now. i figure with this heat its worth a try. also sowed some corguettes 10 days ago to see if il get anything. i doubt il get much as they wont have the same season but worth a try i recon.
