  • Is it too late to plant Sharpes Express potatoes?

I've been waiting for delivery of some potato bags to turn up and they've only just arrived. Don't have space to grow in the ground. The seed potatoes have been chitted. Is it now too late to plant?

Shouldn't be any problem at all, are they maincrop or earlies? even maincrops should easily have a long enough season left though.

I planted some maincrops about this time last year, after a bit of a disaster with the first ones, I did get a reasonable crop. It's been so cold I don't think they're be far behind.

Sharpe's express certainly used to be grown as a second early but in any event, still plenty of time to plant

You will, in fact, avoid the problem I have in that frost is forecast for this area Sunday and my spuds after a very sluggish start are now racing away.
A lot are in containers so it's going to be a question of lugging them all down to the bottom of the garden where it's more sheltered and covering them with something.
            Bloody weather!

Should be no problem, Sharps Express is listed as a 'First early' variety (See Link) so should be ready to harvest in about 12 weeks. I you plant now you will have lovely new spuds at the end of July.
