  • too early for carrots?

Has anybody sown their carrot seed yet?

    Is it too early?

I have ideal red variety waiting to sow.

The packet says it can be sown from February! Seems a bit 'wrong' to me????

I've had some in for a couple of weeks now. Nothing yet but I live in hope.

I sowed some nantes fastcrop in a pot in the garage at the start of February - they are now outside under veggiemesh having germinated a couple of weeks ago. I've also sown another pot outdoors 3 weeks ago which have not yet germinated.

I sowed some early ones in the polytunnel last weekend but won't be doing the outside ones for a few weeks yet. Find that if it's too cold germination is patchy and they catch up anyway.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I've a mini 3m long "polytunnel" in place to warm the ground a bit and will be starting my carrot sowing about this time next week, variety Flyaway, using a Pro Seeder - despite what I read on this site

Yep, I ve sown three rows of sweet candle from DT brown and Manchester table from real seed.

Sowed 2weeks ago, nothing up yet, put some fleece over the bed last night in case they come up with a sharp frost ahead.

I mixed the seed with sharp sand this year to hopefully help with the need of thinning later.

I've got two tubs of Amsterdam Sprint growing away nicely in the greenhouse but it's a bit early for outdoor ones yet. I'll probably set another couple of tubs away in the greenhouse this weekend as it's set to get a bit warmer.

As I usually do, I sowed with gay abandon a couple of weeks ago. Nothing yet, but they'll soon be up if the slugs don't get there first.

It's too cold here for carrots just yet, although the overwintered ones in the unheated gh are throwing out new leaves aplenty
