  • Toms hit the pause button

Hi folks, I'm just getting very impatient, with a dash of concern, about my basket toms.

I have one little 7mm tomato and thousands of flowers.

It's like someone pressed the "pause" button!

Flowers wilting all around it but no more toms! And it doesn't seem to be getting any bigger.

Is this normal? Should I just take a pill and calm down and be patient?

The flowers that are 'wilting' are the ones where new tomatoes will have 'set' If you look underneath where the flower is dropping off, the tomatoes will be there, about the size of a pinhead. Give them a weekly feed with tomato food and you'll soon have lots of little tomatoes swelling.
    Patience!

      Thanks for replying Sarah

I was hoping this was normal. The plants look healthy enough, there just seems to have been a lack of any progress for a week or two, other than more flowers opening and wilting, and no sign of more toms on any of them - 4 plants in all.

I just pinched the dead leaves off the oldest flower on a different plant and think I see the beginnings of a tom.

      Here's a shot... (excuse the fingers! )

LOL, I ain't got toms - I've got tom! Singular!

I've just given them a feed. Probably overdue! I was waiting for the fruit to 'set' as I understood it - i.e. I can see little green balls - I didn't know that wilting was the sign of them setting too... or I'd have been feeding them for at least a fortnight now!

So I'm eternally indebted to Sarxwiz for educating me on that bit!
