I think I may be a bit obsessed with tomatoes and way over my head. But I want to plant different kinds of tomatoes next year.

So I was just wondering what is the best tomatoes to grow and what ones do you lot like to grow?

Hi carriann I prefer hundreds and thousands but keep them in container/hanging basket or they tend to take over

Sungold (orange cherry tomatoes). I am trying chocolate cherry but can't give a verdict as no fruit has ripened yet. Shirley is a nice indoor variety for normal sized tomatoes.

This year I am growing moneymaker, but yet to taste them. I'd wish they would hurry up.

Several of the smaller seed companies have extensive ranges of heritage tomatoes (many hundreds of varieties). I try to grow at least half a dozen new ones each year and some of my favourites include: Black Russian, Golden Sunrise, Giant Delicious and Amish Paste. I could go on but there are so many to try that I'll never get through them all before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

It's a common variety but Gardener's Delight is one I always grow.

sungold F1 (my favourite of the bunch) ..... there is another new tomato called Park's Nectar which is supposidly even better than sungold .... I was too late to get seeds, but will try them next year:

for sandwiches, I like the old fashioned brandywine

I am growing Harbinger as a standard greenhouse tom and they are doing fine. Got one red tom so far.
I am also growing a bush type called Garden Pearl. Never seen as many flowers or fuits on a tom plant. 6 plants are outside on the edge of the decking, and 4 plants on the staging in the greenhouse. These have loads of small fruits on them, very sweet and juicy. None have so far reached the house as I eat em on the way up.

Sweet Aperatif the sweetest tomato out there. Loads of cherry tomatoes on a cordon plant and you can save the seed

I always grow 2 of these from a January sowing - it means I have lots of early cherry toms before the others are even thinking about turning red.
Not the best in flavour IMO but wouldn't be without them, even so

I'm grow Moneymakers this years. Had great success with them last year.
I've also added Johnsons World Kitchen Big Red F1 which are doing well.

Next year I dont think i'll bother with Moneymakers. I might try Roma VF & Gardener's delight (are these smaller Tom's one pack i've got shows big Tom's the other small cherry Tom's )
I might even sneek in some Sunbaby's althought my husband a little fussy with his Tomatoes.
