  • Tomatoes...too late to sow?

    Morning all!

Had a minor disaster with my tomatoes! Have been starting to put them outside (in the blowaway) during the day as they were starting to look a bit leggy! And of course last night totally forgot to bring them in and there is now a lovely frost outside so I'm assuming they are very possibly gonners! Is it too late to sow more (I usually sow them in Feb time!) or will they catch up fine if I sow some now?
    Thanks!

Go sow and have fun. I tried to overwinter more stuff this year so only sowed the bulk of my toms last night to avoid the windowsill giggle and the indoor out hokey cokey

We put our toms in seed trays late April last year and got away with it. Got loads of toms although maybe not as early as they could of been and a few late ones died on the vine.

I think you will get away with it.

Apart from the ones that are goign to stay in the house, I haven't sown any tomatoes yet. I shall be doing my main batch some time next week.

I sowed 20 varieties on Monday and (apart from crimson crush) they're all up and do tend to grow quickly so I think they will be big enough by the time you can put them outside.

I always used to sow my tomato seeds late, and always had a good crop.

                  Good luck

I sowed my tomato seeds last Saturday (2nd April) and they're just popping up now so I'm sure you'll be ok to resow - it's a lot warmer in Kent than it is in Northumberland!

I sowed a few replacement ones last night because 3 of my 24 plants don't look the best.

I'm hoping it's not too late, my Jersey Devil seeds arrived yesterday so only just been sown!

They'll probably germinate quickly given warmer daytime temperatures and longer daylight hours, so you might find you're not that far behind. This is, of course, not true if you grow in a heated propagator with lights!
