  • Tomatoes - as they become ripe!

    I've had Maskotka, Koralik and a Nova Yellow so far in the last week or so.

    ALL of them from outdoors toms, and all sown the same few days in Feb.

    Yesterday - I sliced my first Maskotka proper [fully ripened on the plant] into 3 and had it with fresh mozzarella, pepper, a smear of pesto in 3 mini open sandwich style mouthfuls. Absolutely amazing.

    As yours become ripe, perhaps all post on here so that we can see varieties that are ripening the earliest and whether they are in or out.

    Will these be the ones that are traditionally early, or are there some surprises in there?

    Maskotka for the 3rd year running, from my own saved seeds [originally on a GYO mag cover] are my little star once again.

    All these are indoors all the outside ones got blight before anything was big enough to use, let alone ripen
    I've been eating Gartenperle since 16th June, January sown.
    Last weekend the Maha(Maja?) started ripening, March sown
    and picked some of these today Scotland Yellow, Black Cherry and Purple Cherokee, March sown.

      Got a bunch of Snow White and a single (but fairly large) Brad's black heart that are ready for picking, both in a greenhouse but which has had it's door fully open for some months now.

        some sungold, and a few cherry plums.
        there are a few blue osu's turning, but not ripe yet.

          I have some mystery ones same variety turning red both indoors and out. They were sown as allegedly being white oxheart but as they have turned red they are clearly something else. The first 2 were picked yesterday so I'm looking forward to finding out how they taste.

            A few tiny Italian-variety cherry tomatoes got eaten this morning - first ones. Only outdoor ones ripening here too. Sown early Feb. They were first up last year too. Can't vouch for flavour - our 4 year old popped them straight into her mouth!

              We had a handful of Galina's around 22nd July. After that it's been Tigerella - had three I think and a couple of Black Krim. All grown under cover. There's a black cherry nearly ripe too.

                I've been eating tumbler for a month but just 5-6 a week. Was sown in early march. More disappointed is the garden perle, way behind of the other variety that I have

                    Incy if they were my white oxhearts then they might have got a bit muddled up with some Matina I had saved as well (which I couldn't find later!) - if they are potato leaved that is what they will be.
                    Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                      Picked my first tumbler early July from a hanging basket, they are now producing steadily.

                      First Sungold from the GH house about two weeks later, again they are now producing steadily.

                      My Green Zebra, Ethiopean Black and Black cherry all have good fruit but no sign of ripening.

                        I picked some Texas Wild toms a cople of weeks ago - really tasty. Next tom plants that ripened were Dwarf Wax and fairly disappointed with the taste. Still waiting for Maja, Minibel, and Bajaja. Plants are outside and have been hammered with boitritis ( sp?). So damp and muggy.

                          Outdoor gardeners delight (proper version), rather tasteless to be honest. I've a big beefstake one ripening up, should be ready tomorrow/day after - not sure what it is, so will post some pictures on here when I've consumed it

                            that'll be a from a laparoscopy then Chris........

                            So far over the last week I've had
                            Losettos and whippersnapper from hanging baskets
                            Poire Jaunes from outside at the lottie , the CG and from the gh
                            Snow whites from the gh and outside in the CG
                            Tomato berrys from the gh
                            and earlier have picked a Kenilworth St George from outside on the patio ........
