  • Tomatoes - still picking

I just have to mention this. I picked 5 tomatoes in my greenhouse last week. They went lovely with my ham sandwich.

When I tidied up all my tomato plants for winter there was one Garden Pearl bush plant that just did not want to give in. It was lovely and green and still flowering so as an experiment I left it in the greenhouse.

It's looking a little sad now but still has quite a strong green patch and still flowering and producing fruit.

I'm still reluctant to bin the poor thing, maybe I'll give it a good prune and see what happens

    Hi SMS6,

In the warmer area, tomatoes are grown as parennial, if your toms can hang on a bit longer they might be very early this year as their root has been fully form. Let us know how it goes.

Where do you live SMS6 and what varieties did you grow? Even in the mild winter we're having I think ours would have been hard pressed to do as well!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Cornwall. The plants in an unheated greenhouse.

I grew several different variaties in the green house last year but only the one Garden Pearl Bush plant out of three didn't succumb to the winter weather.

I think I'll certainly try and keep it going and see if it produces an early crop this year.

Are your green house warm during winter Nicos ? perhaps you can try to overwinter some toms this year . It is such a luxury to have fresh pick toms during winter and not to mentioned that they grow without heating nor grow lamps .
