  • Tomatoes with a dark green shoulder

I have a grafted Gardeners Delight plant which has 7 tomatoes on it, the larger 3 or 4 fruit have a darker green (approx 1/4) shoulder and the rest of the fruit is a 'normal' green'.

Is this normal or some disease or other (I have searched but cannot find any similar description)

    Is there a remedy?

    Thanks

Some tomatoes just grow like that. They should even out as they grow and ripen.

It's all a bit new to me (I have grown toms once before but it was a long time ago)

In addition to 2 grafted plants, I bought 'plug' plants off Ebay of several different varieties and I ended up with 2 (Gardeners Delight) spare which I was just keeping under a carport. Yesterday I decided that 2 of my 3 Tigerella's weren't at all well. Of the 3, 1 has a small tomato growing but they are all very sparse and the one in the centre had a totally rotten leaf. They all seem to have mutant branches at the bottom, like a separate plant growing out the side of the main stem - so I removed them and replaced them with the spare plants. The Tigerellas are now under the carport and I will try to keep them coming on - but at least they can't spread any problems.

Some tomatoes naturally have a greener shoulder, however I do believe that it can also be caused by feeding regime. How often and how much are you feeding your toms.

I would guess about 4 times in the last 3 weeks with Tomorite, not scientifically mixed but a few capfuls in a little over a litre of water

That sounds like a lot of feed to me. I put one capful in a gallon (or metric equivalent) watering can and feed about once a week.

I only put 1 capful in 7Ltre of water and feed once a week only after the first truss has set, then twice a wek when the second truss has set, then 3 times a week after the 3rd and subsequent trusses have set
