  • tomato seedlings in loo rolls?

i've run out of pots!! can i put my seedlings into loo roll inards?

I suppose so. But I would really only use them for things that needed a long root run if I'd used up all my root trainers. You might to better making some paper pots. Plenty of thread on them if you 'search'.

I guess you could, but would they not soon get top heavy & topple? If they're still diddy you may be O.K.
I've used old tins for mine, but they had gotten quite leggy,so needed the extra depth.

You can - just make sure the pots don't dry out when the toms get big. The point of peat pots is that the roots can get out through them and into the soil.

The thing to do with tomatoes is to keep potting them up as they grow bigger so that you can keep the lowest leaves just above the surface of the compost. As you get roots growing from the stem of these plants when you pot them into the final pot the
plants get maximum feed from all the roots. This way you get the best yield possible.

You could just sow into the tube half way down then as they get leggy you can simply earth them up which will help produce a better root system, if they start to produce roots from the bottom of the loo roll then stack this on top of some watered grit/gravel and then transfer to a bed/deep pot when ready.

                Long live the tomato!

I've got some Marmandes in loo rolls stacked in a cat litter tray - unused - they are doing so well that I haven't a weaker seedling to thin out will have to make the chop soon though
