  • Tomato plants from sideshoots

In theory, if I root all my sideshoots from the black cherry tomato plant I bought, will I get full size plants from them please?

I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.

Yes, tomatoes root so easily, often if I find a side shoot which I've missed and it's grown quite large, (I know the rest of you never let that happen but I'm a disorganised b*-*-r), I stick the sideshoots in the GH border alongside their mum and they grow on happily.

Apparently this also works for cucumbers....

I haven't tried it with cucumbers but I do it with tomatoes all the time - it helps give you some fresher plants for a longer season.

It definitely works with Amish Paste too - I had a missed sideshoot last year that rooted itself trailing along the compost next to the parent, a bit like a strawberry runner! I only got one truss of tomatoes off it but it was a bonus extra

It works with them all, just look at one that falls over and is missed. Roots all over.
I plant mine deep so that they benefit from the extra roots.

Most definately works - OH is in despair, I've got 30+ tom plants on the go but still insist on rooting the side shoots!

Last year I grew an upside down tomato plant, it snapped off, so in rage and anger, I stuffed the remaining stalk up the hole it had been growing out of. It grew into a better plant than the original one. That's when I found out that tomato plants like to be slapped about a bit.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.
