Tomato plant treatment?

    Tomato plant treatment?

    I have read online that as I have yellow spots on my tom leaves that they may be suffering from a magnesium deficiency and I should spray them for a week with magnedium.

    Js this right? Also where would I get magnesium for toms?

    How old are your tomato plants, how big, and where are they growing?

      They are about 10 weeks old in gh. I potted them on into quite large pots last Sunday. I think they were slightly rootbound before. The plant itself looks healthy, just a few leaves.

        In Geoff Hamilton's book "Gardener's World - Practical Gardening Course. I.S.B.N. 1-85613-365-6.

        On page 17 there is a frightening set of photo's showing Boron, Manganese, Molybdenum,Calcium, Magnesium and Iron deficiencies. He says (if it is magnesium your plants are short of) "Use Magnesian (or Dolomitic) limestone. Cheers, Tony.

          Can you upload a picture? Would help a bit If you've just potted them on they shouldn't be deficient in anything. If it is a magnesium deficiency i think Epsom Salts are quite a popular remedy, Google it ('fraid i don't know much about them or how to use them). From your description though i wouldn't have thought Mg deficiency, which usually manifests in a yellowing between the veins, not spots. I'm sure there was a thread up here just the other week with the poster asking the same thing and it turned out to be scorch or something.

              there is an example of the leaves

              The photo makes it look more"burnt" than anything, but the yellow is quite bright

                If my veg is needing magnesium I use Epsom-salts as stated above^ couple of big spoonful's works a treat my watering can.

                  That looks more like scorch/scald to me than anything. You say its just on a few leaves, if it is magnesium deficiency it will start on the lower leaves and then move upward. If this happens then spray with epsom salts as said above.

                    +1 for scorch. The rest of the plant seems fairly green. If you notice the plant is looking hungry in the future feeding with nettle tea will give them a boost of nitrogen of course but it's also a good source of Mg and iron. So quite a balanced fertiliser that will prevent some micro nutrient deficiencies.

                        Epsom Salts - Chris waters and Colin sprays - do both work? I've a couple of plants that look like they could do with it.

                          1/2oz to the pint is the recommended dose for spraying. Don't know if this changes for watering in.
