    Is this tomato plant sick?

    Hi, I'm looking for some opinions please. I have 12 toms and 4 of them have this slight brown edging on some of the leaves. I first noticed it after I neglected to water them for a few days and the compost got really dry. They've been pampered ever since. I wonder is it down to stress? I've also been hardening them off, but taking them in on really cold nights. But still maybe they got a little touch of frost? Apart from these brown edges they look very healthy. Hoping it's not a virus of some sort. Does it ring any bells with anyone?

    Hi Redser,
    It looks as if they are suffering from a little TINY bit of wind burn. - combined with their dry spell. Sure it's nothing to worry about. The new growth looks fine,so just try and make sure watering is regular (and from the base) in future and that they are sheltered from any cold winds when outside.

        I'm no expert but they look otherwise good and I'm thinking as long as the discolouration doesn't spread they should be fine.

            Believe me, you'll know when your toms have been frosted. I had a tomatogeddon on my blowaway last week...

              Thanks everyone, I've decided to believe it's wind burn, that way I can relax. If it's a virus there's nothing i can do about it

                Sorry to bang on about this but assuming it is frost or wind damage, should I nip off the leaves or just leave well alone? It does appear to be affecting more leaves. But apart from this the plants do look very healthy, lush and all have at least one and sometimes two trusses already on them.

                  Just to mention, I do smoke and am thinking it could be tobacco mosaic virus (serves me right for googling it!). It's like googling 'chest pains' or such the like and wishing you didn't!!

                    It doesn't look like TMV. It looks like some kind of burn, probably wind as has been said. Leave the leaves alone and stop worrying

                      It is posssible to pass on TMV if you smoke but the odds are against it. I smoke and it has never happened to me in all the years I have been growing. Mind I do wash my hands now and rinse them in clear running water before handling any plants just as a precaution.
