  • Tomato picking

Finally I have managed to get some toms as far as ripening on the vine.
Do I need to pick them as soon as they are ripe or can they stay on the vine until we are ready to eat them?

I pick mine early to let the plant have more energy for ones that are coming along.

        I pick as well

With the cherry tomatoes I thought I'd try and wait till I got a whole truss ripe in one go but the ones at the top seemed to be getting a bit squashy so I abandoned that notion and now just eat as soon as they're ready. After all we've waited long enough for them !
Just shows how conditioned we've become by supermarket tomatoes though to think they'll all be ripe together !

I left mine for 3 more days so I'd have a load of super fresh ones for weekend- and some of them have split

Better to pick them when they're ready as they'll spoil if left on the vine.
