Default Tomato growing - japenese ring adaption for pots.

Hello all

My recent journey into the world of growing tomatos led me to find many ways of growing them. One was the japenese ring method.

As seen here

and read about here.

THE JAPANESE TOMATO RING

My theory of how to adapt this approach for pots would be to use a 20" pot (45cm) filled with compost with a sewer pipe 12" across by 10" high to act as a nutrient store? (it would look like a chimney stack)

In order to build this i'd take the Pot and fill with compost, place the pipe on top of the pot soil and fill 2" with soil then 1" of organic fertiliser (chicken poop) then another 2" layer of compost, and continue to build it up in layers until i reach the top.

Then i would plant the tomatos at the base of the ring where it meets the pot. I appreciate that i may have to incorporate a couple of canes for support but i think this might work?

Any ideas?

the flaws that i can see are that the chicken layers may provide to many nutrients and burn the young plants? What do people think?
