  • Tomato chop

I've planted my tomatos into the greenhouse border and some surplus into pots. The best one I had (given unfortunately, not sown by my fair green hand)...sods law...don't know how I've done it...had flowers on it...snapped the bloomin (or not now) top off.

Question - do I kill it quietly or will it continue to grow? or if not, could I cut off a sideshoot and root and continue to grow that? Only its a Sun Cherry of which I've not grown before, so was curious to see how good it was.

I am a very clumsy person and when carrying toms in and out of the greenhouse always snap a couple! I tend to just tie it in up the cane ensuring that the broken bits meet and as long as it is attached by something they always grow again. Could pinch out some sideshoots and pot on just to be safe.

I'd pop it in water and repot in a week or so.

In a month it will have forgotten all about it and you will be forgiven.

You can let one of the sideshoots (if you haven't got them yet, you will!) grow on as the leader. Also as mentioned, let the 'cutting' root and you'll have two plants!

I know how you feel I did the same to a cucumber last year but it carried on growing from a side shoot just like they told me it would here on the vine.
