  • Tips of salad leaves going white and shriveling

For the life of me I don't know why this happens but I have rocket and spicy salad grown from seed. This year I have bought professional compost from the nursery which they use as it is sterilized. I used to buy cheap from Aldi, Home and bargain in the past which was one reason for my problems.

Anyway, I have mixed 50/50 sharp sand and compost for sewing (as advised by the nursery) as the compost will be too strong. The salad leaves have been growing fine, I have not over or under watered but the tips of the leaves are turning pale, almost white and shriveling.

What could this be please ?

Not at the moment. I have described it as best I can.

Tip burn due to inconsistent watering, perhaps ?

Sounds like scorch to me - unless the white is a mildew?

As above, sounds like scorch (sunburn) where the leaves bleach out white and crisp away to nothing.

Thanks. Sounds about right as they are in the greenhouse. I have put shade netting up though so can't understand the scorching.
