  • Think I just killed my tomatoes

I repotted some tomato seedlings today into bigger pots, didn't water them straight away as had to collect wee man from nursery, come back and they are all flopped out on the soil.

This didn't happen with the ones I repotted the other day and they were upright when I left the house an hour ago.

    THanks

Give 'em a quick water (not too much) and see what happens - you may be surprised.

Would agree they just need a good drink to revive them.

Thank you both, I have given them a water and also have the pots standing in water too.

I was only out the house for an hour!

I potted mine up the other day and they fell over within a few hours. I had a look under the compost and there were tiny maggots from those horrid compost flies eating my seedlings! So I took emergency measures and got out some bug spray then piled more compost round the base of the stems so that hopefully they'll throw out some new roots before the stems are completely chewed through. Hopefully yours will just be lacking a bit of water but it might be worth having a check in the compost.

Just a quick drink, mind - don't leave them standing in water too long. I often put newly potted-on plants somewhere shady for the first 24 hours so they don't succumb to 'flop'.

Always water seedling an hour before potting on.

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

Mine flopped like that, gave them a drink and within two hours they perked up.
