Default Taters Reviled...

We planted Wilja or Maris piper (forgot to label) way back at the end of march/start of april and we were trying to grow them them this year in tyres.
Dug them up the other day hoping to find a bumper crop but only came away with 20 or so.
Very disapointing and it's made me frightened to dig up the other ones which were put in quite a bit later (same type and method) I'll probably get none at all from them.

Any ideas on why the low yeild? I thought growing them in tyres was supposed to incread the crop.

And is there any hope for my chrissy taters?
