Sweetcorn To snip out or not

Hi Folks,

My sweetcorn has grown two sideshoots from the base of each plant and the old guys on the site have said i should have snipped them off when they were young to focus the energy into the main stem.

Any suggestions for next year should i cut out or leave them ??
