  • sweetcorn seed colour change!

    Hi,
I decided to bring my sweetcorn seeds on by using the wet kitchen roll on a plate method that some of you have tried, but one of the varieties I'm using this year has reacted differently, it's Applause.
So bare with me I don't know the names of seed and root parts but, after 3 days half had germinated and looked good, the rest have been slower and have put out the long shoot, but the growing tip that is normaly green, is a reddish colour, now these wern't coloured red like some are, with an anti fungal coating or similar.
The thing I'm thinking is that they started to grow then died and the tip started to discolour, any thoughts please, don't want to waste them, but also don't want to use up space if there no good.

Sunny If you had put them in a pot and grown them as normal instead of hatching them on kitchen paper you wouldn't have seen this and you would not be worried so if I was you I would shove them in a pot and let them grow.

        Thanks Paulw,

yes, think it's probably best to plant them and if they grow, I probably wont know the difference when there all gathered, fingers crossed

And hi to Patchninja, we should compare notes at the end of the growing summer, its surprising how the soil varies here, even a few yards down the road, were in 22 as well but just on the border, I can see 56 out of the top windows, have a good summer.
