  • Sweetcorn question, how near is near?

I am trying a different variety of corn this year, it has germinated and grown really well (prelude) but it says on the packet not to grow it near other varieties.
A couple of the old boys also have corn but dont know what kind (not big on labelling up here!!)
So how near is near please, nearest one to me is about 100 yards

this site says at least 100 yards away from other varieties, but I suspect that other sites will give different advice ...

It's wind pollinated so unless the wind is really strong and blowing from theirs to yours when the tassels are out I would have thought you'd be ok!

No doubt someone will be along to "shoot me down", but I do think this thing about cross-pollination of sweetcorn is a bit over the top. Even if it does cross pollinate with another type, I think you will find the taste of home grown sweetcorn far superior to anything you can buy in the shops.

Isn't cross pollination only a problem if you are going to be saving seed?

I think you and Rustylady are probably correct.

Thank you everyone,I think I am worrying a bit too much. I just put it in with no thought last year and it was fine
