  • Sweetcorn out .

Sitting here now thinking maybe I've made a great big booboo.
My sweetcorn had outgrown its loo rolls and as I have had a bad day and felt the need to chillout I went to the lottie and planted them out. They are in a sheltered position , are they going to survive or should I be sowing some more

It will all depend on the temperature, Binley: if it is too cold for them they just sit there. But the daytime temperatures may just help. The forecasts are for warmer weather now, but I went outside in a t shirt just now and it is a bit nippy out there.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

They've been sat out in my garden for a few nights and before that they were in the bolwaway that's kept open for at least 2 weeks.

I planted 6 of mine out on Sunday under a tunnel cloche, they're still looking okay, but I've kept plenty of seedlings in reserve just in case Jack shows his unwelcome face again.

I didnt think they'd die unless there is a frost. They might go slow for a bit if they get a chill.

Mine are out but under my mini poly tunnel (2 weeks ago) and racing away.

Mine have been out a month now - had some cold night s- they've a hooped net over with scaffolding netting - so that may be keeping the worst off them - but they're doing ok so far!

Sweetcorn are a bit like beans - they don't like cold winds. I often just cut the bottoms off some plastic bottle remove lids and use as a cloches. Just twist them in and/or use a short cane to stop them blowing off.

Been to check today and they survived the night. We have a pretty well sheltered plot and there's no frost predicted for us for the next two weeks so feeling more hopeful now.

Mine still have plenty of growing space in their pots so will hold of planting out till next week.

Mine were in loo roll middles and the roots were out the bottoms by about a couple of inches.

A couple of mine went out two weeks ago - with lemonade bottle cloches being used overnight. They looked quite startled () at first but seem to be settling in now with the sunnier weather.
I've still got some more smaller ones in loo rolls in the gh as I'm planning on a succession this year.
