  • sweetcorn black flies???

My sweetcorn are growing really well, but I noticed that on one of the plants there are lots of small black flies in the tube of leaves. They don't look like aphids, though they are about the same size. They move quite fast over the leaves and hover around if I move or brush against the plant. Anyone have any ideas what they are and how I can get rid?

Sound like fruit flies to me, but no idea why they're on your sweetcorn.

I don't think they'll do your corn any harm, so I'd just leave them be.

Thanks, they do look a bit like fruit flies, but black. The plant that's affected seems to be doing ok and they aren't bothering any of the others so I'll do as you suggest and give them a reprieve.
