I don't think it's too late, I just sowed my second lot the other day. I don't think they're too bothered about transplanting either, I always start mine in root trainers and then plant out.

Bung some in.

Sown last weekend and they are showing already, They should be big enough to go in at the end of the month and after the last Frost in my area of the UK

dont worry about transplanting i do it every year (old wifes tale) in my case PLUS if you go to garden centres they sell sweetcorn in pots 4 and 5 to a 3 inch pot plus carrots and radish in trays of about 10 dont worry mate get em out end of month enjoy ya corn

I have one lot in the ground after transplanting about a week ago, and one lot almost ready to go out in peat pots.. I'd plant as soon as possible, you're only three or four weeks behind mine, if the summers kind you'll be fine!

Mine were sown on the 29th of April. A couple haven't come up so I've put a couple of seeds in water to chit them.

How long should they be in water for?

I leave mine 'a few days' until I see the first seeds showing the little tap root coming through. Leave too long and they'll rot... I put them on soggy kitchen roll rather than 'in water', but make sure it doesn't dry out

Feb seems awfully early for corn! I don't normally sow until end of April, you can't put them out until after the last frosts anyway. I sowed mid-april this year and they all got killed by frost even in the polytunnel... Our local farmers have only just sown theirs, and some probably still got to go in. Transplanting no problem as others have said

I soak them in an egg cup overnight then put them on damp kitchen roil in a Tupperware tub until their tails show.

Well I must've had a bit of beginners luck ...!

I filled 16 toilet roll inners (you know, the cardboard bit) with moist compost, sowed one seed per inner, topped up with a bit more compost - watered then put them on a sunny windowsill. I didn't know about 'soaking' them before sowing ...

15 of the 16 have germinated and are looking lovely now!
