Decided to reorganize part of the soft fruit bed and move a few things around to make it easier to access the various bushes. Imagine my surprise when I discovered half a dozen good-sized Charlotte potatoes which I’d overlooked last year. I remember sticking a few seed potatoes in last June after I’d cleared some weeds and I thought I’d lifted them all but I must have missed one plant. Had the potatoes for tea and they were lovely. No slug damage whatsoever and in perfect condition despite the severe frosts.

Anyone else had any nice gardening surprises recently.

I put my hand in cat poo whilst pulling a parnsip up! That was certainly a surprise! Albeit not very nice. A nice one, was seeing my fruit bed beginning to bud.. that made me feeling excited inside (sad, I know).

Oh, yes - a few pink fir apples and a few Jerusalem artichokes harvested from the plot without too much digging - and a celeriac root given to me by my lottie neighbour!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Haven't found any pleasant surprises in my garden, but haven't been out there much yet. I live in hope. Glad you've had nice surprises and that you've shared them.

I lifted some carrots this morning...didn't realise till I got home & washed them that there was a single potato there as well! There were no potatoes planted there last year so obviously a rogue one was still in the ground from the previous tenant!
