I'm still selecting these! So far they are nice but not quite as sweet, but this year I'm growing Sungold again, so I can compare. Thinking about it, I could even back-cross a selection with an original?
My favourite at the moment is son of Sungold - a cross between Sungold and Tiger Tom. That is gorgeous. (You shall taste this too in the fulness of time!)Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Next year I'll find out just how good Sungold is. Until then I've been Googling to see if I should/could copy Flummery. So Flummery have you tried crossing the Sungold with a Galapagos Island tomato? (I've been reading tomato breeders sometimes use the GI tom to stabilise a new type of tom - does that make sense?
) Also saw stable offsprings of Sungold being sold but can only find out it was crossed with an heirloom orange coloured tom (GI tom is orange, so........?!)

Can't wait to try Sungold. Unfortunately until my plants actually have ripe tomatoes on them I'm not sure which plants are the Sungold. It appears the Sockmonster has left the washing machine and started on my plant labels.Comment

I've never heard of the Galapagos Island Tomato. My heirloom tom that I used in the cross was striped but the offspring are all red. Flummery, totally fascinating. Now I understand why you are so keen on developing your own strain of Sungold, peas etc. I'm probably wrong about the GI tom, considering how many orange coloured heirloom toms there are but found it interesting that it is used to stabilise new strains. But I'm away ahead of myself (as usual) I'm still waiting for my first ripe tom this year
