  • Sungold disaster!

    Hi All,

One of my 7' cordon tomato plants (Sungold) collapsed yesterday and when it hit the ground, every single tomato came off the trusses, even ones the size of peas! Gutted. So I gathered up the biggest ones, mostly still green, and took them home. Will these ripen off the vine, and if so, what's the best way to do this?

    Many thanks.

Some of them should ripen, although the smaller, less mature ones won't. Spread them out somewhere reasonably warm, preferably in the company of a ripe apple or banana, or other ripe tomatoes. It doesn't need to be particularly light. The ripe fruit releases a gas (ethylene) which helps unripe fruit to ripen.
