  • suffolk squadies need help

i know this might sound a bit diffent to what people might think what squadies and the RAF get up to in there spare time but we are just about to start a gardening club at RAF HONINGTON. we have been allocated a little bit of land on the side of the runway. we are planning to have a couple of allotments on there. however we are starting from nothing so if any body knows of anything going free or very cheap, advice or help we would reali would welcome it

Have a look on Freecycle, I got (and still get) loads of stuff from the Stafford and Cannock groups. You can also request items on there, though I think wanted ads are restricted on some groups to 1 or 2 per month

Speaking as an ex FAA matelot, when I were "t" lad the MOD always had plenty of "useful stuff" hanging around. Always palletts (raised beds? cold frames?), I'm sure most tools are available from somewhere at Honington. Ask the guy's who cut the grass on the airfield, they always used to be civvies where I was (Culdrose) so I'm sure they will be able to suggest5 somewhere locally to get seed/sets from. Good luck anyway, just hope you don't get an overseas posting as soon as spring is here.

What sort of things are you and the Squaddies looking for?

If you are looking for seeds, why not post an advert on the seed swap board. I've got seeds I can send and I dare say lots of other grapes will have spares. PM me your details and I will send some seeds down.

Can't add to the advice, but good luck! I used to fly at RAF Honington when I were a whipper snapper of a girl. I'm sure that's where I learnt Loop-the-loop!
