I'm not very good with successional planting or sowing for that matter! I start with good steam and sow loads of seeds - different varieties of veg then leave them to grow, eat them, forget to sow more, so have that 'gap' til next lot are ready!

I would go for peas/beans and courgette/squash. Mainly I just chuck in what I think I fancy eating next! Salads are quick - like radishes or cut-and-come-again leaves. Chinese veg is quick like pak choi and other stir fry mixes.

I was reading a monthly guide and here are the suggestions for May...
• Continue to sow Lettuces, Radishes and Spring Onions in the soil
• In the north, sow Runner Beans under glass
• Sow French Beans, Runner Beans and Long Rooted Beetroot near month end
• Plant out Late Summer Cauliflowers
• In the north, plant out Brussels Sprouts
• Plant out Cucumbers, Marrows, Pumpkins and Squashes near month end

I use most of the empty space to shove in various salad crops as I don't have a special area for them.

You can sow PSB and all the kales now and spring cabbage both pointy and round in July for overwintering!

ooh cabbages and kale will do nicely for after the pots...not sure about what will follow the cabbages that are already to come up now though...perhaps a courgette.

There's advice on other threads that brassicas (including cabbages) don't do well following on from potatoes immediately as they need firm soil, but digging up the spuds loosens the soil. My own plans are to follow my new potatoes with squashes (for the first time) and salad veg.

The risk of blight increases with the summer.
