  • Sturdy Seed Trays

Getting a new little green house this year and I'm going to treat myself to some new seed trays too - I keep buying the cheap packs of wilkos ones and then getting annoyed and doubling them up as they are so thin and bendy.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a sturdy long lasting brand? I've a couple of ones labelled 'Ward' on the bottom that must be 20+ years old and are rigid - no flex even full of soil, but it doesn't look like they are still about.

    Thanks

cat litter trays. Drill holes or heat up some copper tube to burn the holes in

Do you mean trays or modules?

I'm not 100% sure but I think the solid ones are gravel trays so you can place the "flimsy" seed trays inside for water retention.

If you go to the garden centre you can usually have a feel of how strong they are,I haven't bought any for years but they'll be different quality depending what shop you're in.

I *think* that Wilko's do a sort of premium tray that are well worth the extra money.
I picked up about 10 really good green / thick trays from the recycling site last year so only have a few 'doubled up' cheap ones.

I am really quite cost conscious about my allotment/veg habit but have decided that cheap trays really are a false economy.

Yes, they do - as the cheapos got knackered beyond use, I've been replacing them with the better quality ones.

I may be wrong, but I think the Ward ones became Stewart - if not, they are very similar. You can get them at most garden centres.

Yep, I think spending a little more and having them last years will work out more cost effective in the long run!

I've got a couple of the double size wilko gravel trays which are very handy. The standard tray didn't seem quite as sturdy although a lot more than the really thin plastic budget ones.

Poundstretcher do the green strong ones. I'll be getting myself some as I have the same problems with the cheap thin ones. All they seem to do is split.

Of course you could always knock together some wooden ones.
Some old pallet wood should probably make some sturdy ones.
Anyone got any plans, should be quite simple.
