  • Stupid mistake

I forgot to bring in my tomatoes last night, and this morning they had all flopped over at the base of the stems. The leaves are all still bright green and healthy, and i have now brought them back into the house but is it too little too late???

ooh dear, poor tomatoes,if they leaves are still green they should recover, just leave them and see what happens, could the wind have blown the stem over/or animal,if the frost had them, the leaves would be had it first,

      I did that too.
I replanted mine into some Morrison flower buckets and forgot to bring them in.
They're looking very sorry for themselves.
I've brought them in, watered them using water out my fish tank and left them by back window.
Hope they come back. Leaves are still green.

          All is not lost.

Keep an careful eye on them if there is no improvement or they get worse do the following. Cut off the leader about 6" long if you can. Pop this in a milk bottle full of water and place on a window sill. Check the water level everyday and top up as necessary. Increase this to twice a day when the roots start to show as if you leave the roots open to air they will dry and die. Within 7/10 days the plant will have thrown a complete new root system, now is the time to pot up. A little compost in the bottom of a pot and spread the roots out before filling the pot. For the first few days keep the compost wetter than normal as the roots get used to taking what they need from the compost.

Hey Presto nice new tomato plants that will grow like rockets.

Have you put a cane in to give them some support Jason? They could recover, but if not, do what Colin's said ^^^^ Hope they make it.

I've got mine in the bags in the greenhouse now, the temp plummeted to around 0.5 last night, but didn't see any sign of wilting this morning so fingers crossed!

When they were in the paint pot i put canes in and transfered them with the plants into to the buckets and planted them deeper. If they don't pull through at what point do i start the process Potstubsdustbins discribed?

If the root is damaged the plant will continue to wilt from the bottom. If you leave it after this stage you will have less chance of success. So my advice would be that if the bottom leaves wilt cut of the leader and try. You can loose nothing and may well retrieve the situation.
