  • String or cane.....?

    Hi all
Last year I went all out and grew absolutely loads of cucumbers, they were monsters! :0 I found it a bit of a pain to tie them to canes as the stems were really spiny (was beginning to think at one point that they were hybrid thistles, or something ; ) ) This year I would like to try tying them to string, can you do this with cuces? I think they will have tendrils, though this time I'm growing a different type.

I use wire as the string doesn't fair too well when the plant gets big. Same principle but more support and yes they will only need to ocassional tying in as the tendrils do a pretty decent job.

I either train them over an arch in the polytunnel or put up a series of horizontal wires which I hook the plants over and then they support themselves pretty much with just the occaisional tie in at the start or if there are a lot of fruits in one area.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
