Default Squashes & Melons Question...

How much sun do pumpkins, butternut squash and melons need? My only really sheletered spot only has sun until 1:30-2pm...

Do I risk wind damage to get more sun....we never dont have wind.

Thanks.

I don't think any of us have been getting much more sun than that. A couple of weeks ago when we were a bit more sunny, my squash really took off - they've slowed down now there's only grey skies and rain though.

Hello Grovsey, to my knowledge squashes and melons need vast amounts of sun, you would be better of putting them in the windy location or in containers rather than somewhere shady. Good luck

I think they need warmth and shelter more than direct sunshine. However if your site is really shady and damp they probably won't do too well.
