Squash on compost heap?

    Squash on compost heap?

    I have a large bay (5ft square and 3 ft high) of year old stable manure. I would like to grow a butternut squash on top, has any one tried this? The manure will be spread over the plot this autumn but I would like to get some benefit from it now, if possible.

    ETA: It's in a good sunny spot, gets sunlight for almost the whole day.

      as long as you can keep it hydrated - it'll love it If it's open sided, the water might run out too fast so you'll need to water fast.

      I'm growing probably about 6 in a heap of manure maybe twice that size.

        Not open sided but long pallet one side and 2 old fences the others with a ramshackle mix of boards and posts closing in the front I think I will go for a butternut and a courgette and see how we get on. I have nothing to lose except a couple of seedlings!
