    Sprouts: How many plants are needed?

    I sowed some Evesham Special sprouts last Wednesday indoors.......& they are already at the seedling stage!

    I've got 16 in cells. Is this enough to produce a good yield? Or is it too much?!

    How many are you feeding C+D? And how much do you all love sprouts?

      I had 5 plants, one died and one got got by the dreaded caterpillars.
      I pulled 2 plants for xmas which was enough for 10 of us for dinner (they were still quite small) - family won't eat them any other time.
      Got one left in the ground, ready now, which I am trying to bribe my mum to take off me lol

      I would say barring disasters 16 is more than enough!

        I'm looking to feed a small family, but I was hoping on getting as many as possible.

        Can you freeze them?

          I grew 6 plants and that was way too much for 2 of us at the time. Yes, you can freeze them - blanch then freeze. And don't forget to eat the sprout tops fresh! They do take up quite a bit of room though, and really stamp on the ground to make it firm to plant in when they finally get planted out.

            I grew 30 for two of us and didnt have enough! I did grow two types though for continuity of crop..............in fact just brought a few home this evening!

              I never seem to have enough space for all the brassicas I want to grow. Only planted 9 last year and it was nowhere near enough for the two of us. Have no idea where I'm going to find the space to put any more this year though as I also want to plant more caulis, cabbages, PSB etc.........

              Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

              Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                  I thought that Geordies live on leeks and 'fishies on dishies'. Sounds like your house lives on sprouts.

                    I planted a whole tray last year and didn't get a crop

                    I am determined to have at least 1 sprout this year from my lottie though
                    All vehicles now running 100% biodiesel...

                        Good point- I think I'll have room for 5-10 plants. The rest I can give away or sell at boot sales.
