  • sprouting onions

I have some onions in my veg rack which are starting to sprout. I have some others that I forgot about at the edge of a veg bed from last year which are also sprouting - and have rooted. What are they trying to do?
I am guessing that they will just flower and give seeds for next year. If I am right can I use these seeds??

They're biennials and any left from last year will flower this year. Yes, you can keep the seed to sow for next year's crop.

I chopped the sprouting tops off a couple of onions and planted them just for fun to see what would happen.
Seeds for next year will do nicely
