Default Spring cabbage growth pattern

I've got some spring cabbages growing. Each year I sow some and then get bored of the garden in October and chuck them on the heap, so I am very pleased with myself that I have 8 planted up!

I've been wondering about the growth pattern, though...

Sown in July, August, the light is already fading but they get off to a quick start. I think the growth has slowed, especially as we have been having some very cold weather since October, but what happens from now? Do they just grow continuously, but slower, until the light and warmth increase at the end of Winter, or will they sort of stop for a while during mid-winter?

Default

They generally just sit around during the winter, and put on a spurt when things warm up in Spring. You can hurry them a bit by cloching them.
