Has anybody bought any "spray and grow" on QVC? Richard Jackson gets very excited about it but there are so many different types of fertilisers on the market, is it really a good all-rounder?

Don't they always get excited on QVC though

Have seen this on QVC but have never used it and don't know anybody who has . Think we all assume if it was such a miracle it would be widely available and not just advertised on the telly !

QVC is a shopping channel on TV where grownups hyperventilate over all the tat and rubbish that we would try to sop our children spending their pocket money on.
I once saw a comedy skit where two people were taking off QVC. They were selling plastic inconterance knickers, a rubber washer and a single sock with a hole in the heal.Comment

I wonder if any of those items are slug proof!! I get your point guys. I'm still not sure what is the best good all round fertiliser. Any suggestions?

I have always had very good results with seaweed and also pelleted chicken manure. I now use my own straw/chicken manure and that also works. Of course cow or horse is also great - manure that is! Pig manure is too cold. Hope that helps!Last edited by Squirrel; 26-05-2006, 10:22 AM.Comment

Jax, re: QVC, there is a QVC outlet store not far from us where they sell all the end of lines & goods which have been returned- an awful lot of returns.Most of the stuff would be rejected from a jumble sale especially the clothes but every so often you can get hold of a bargain there, I've bought a garden arch for £3-99 (one of those skinny metal push together ones) a cheap digital camera & other bits & pieces, I wouldn't pay any of the prices they ask on TV for them though.
Spacemagnet, I use seaweed feed, blood fish & bone & chicken manure pellets which work for most things.Into every life a little rain must fall.Comment

I've just started using blood, fish and bone meal having watched a re-run of the ornamental kitchen garden on tv. Don't know yet if it is any better than what I normally use, time will tell no doubt.Comment

Am i right in thinking that all manure has to be well rotted down before i put it on my veg plot? And what about sheep manure, i've got about 100 of them living next door.

Sheep manure is great! Everything I have read or heard seems to suggest that all manures need to be 'well rotted'. Personally I would use any manure after having 'aged' it for four to six months. I worry that anything longer than that the nutrients would leach out. I stress that this is my personal opinion!
Of course in winter Fresh manure can be put neat onto your beds and will have rotted down enough come spring to be of great use without all the associated turning and digging! Enjoy!Comment
