  • Sowing winter onion seed

    Hi all ive got some winter onion seed due to sow in august. Do i sow direct into the bed or can i sow in modules and plant out at a later date,if so when

    Hi Pies. What variety are they. I usually find that onions do well started in modules, and you can keep a better eye on them that way.

      They are Senshyu Yellow

        I would deffo recommend starting in modules. I sowed a packet outdoors last year and got about six plants. (I only use Senshyu sets now!)

          It's just an experiment,to see if the losses from seed are less than those that bolt from set.

          when do u think is best to plant them out ?

                The advice on the seed packet is always a good starting point...........or so they say!

                PS More onions for your money with sets, but also more chance of running to seed. Only had two of my Senshyu onions grown from sets bolt on me this year thank goodness!

                  moleseeds are good but they dont give you much info on growing,in fact all it says on the packet is senshu onion 5gram

                  anyway wheres the fun in following instructons
