sowing now... crazy? or ok?

    sowing now... crazy? or ok?

    Last year i only started seeds off april - summerish.

    am i missing a trick? what can i sow now? anything?
    or would i be crazy to try.
    i would like to have veg of my own for more than just the stuff we harvest now.
    year long crops that grow well in the south of uk or just stuff to plant now eat through winter and spring?

    i do wish there was some kind of vegetable and fruit growing course the people could go on and learn properly
    newbie! Be gentle with me while I learn the basics of growing stuff

    I have some winter lettuce and mizuna going now. You can also plant onion sets. I'm sure there are lots of other things too.

      You can sow perpetual (aka perennial) spinach, also chard, oriental veggies like pak choi, mizuna, mibune, tatsoi and mustard for stir fries.

        i might see if i can escape early and get oh to take me to garden centre :-)
        i cant plant anything like cabbage or any brassicas (the less exotic kind... i might see if i can find some tatsoi? or root veg?
        i assume they just wont like it? had to google mizuna tatsoi and mibune lol - not keen on any spice or mustard due to being a wimp

          Too late to sow any brassicas but you might be able to buy some plants at the garden centre.

            I was really confused by my brocolli last year.... I thought plant in spring and eat round about now???
            But was eating it in Feb

              There are lots of sorts of broccoli, but the most usual sort is the spring sort, often called sprouting broccoli. The summer broccoli is often called calabrese and is not winter hardy.

                  We are FINALLY on the way to the garden centre to try find things I can plant now and crop through winter.
                  Not managed to grow calabrese yet the butterflies got me coz its so rare I get to garden centre.
                  Hope the have some of this mizuna and tatsoi and more lol.

                  I only have tomorite as a feeder, apparently I also need a nitrogen one?

                      Ahhh thanks.... Will print that out.
                      I have a great one from some magazine but its too big to go anywhere and is double sided so canny see it all.

                      I might have gone a wee bit crazy on the seeds for 50p each at the garden centre
