  • Sourcing Giant White Beans

Was looking in the supermarket this week and saw some of those truly huge Greek Beans in a suace of some kind. Vast price but they did look tasty.

They're like a double-sized butter bean (1½" long by 1" across minimum!) - and I don't think the cooking process alone makes the 'normal' butter bean swell to this size.

Also known as Giant Greek White Beans, Elephant Beans and Fasslia Gigantes.

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of a seed source or even a pack of the dry beans for eating - deli, supermaket etc?

Perhaps there are some peeps with Greek backgrounds who might be able to help here?

    Many Thanks.

PW gave me some last year but I struggled with them to be honest. I only got a couple to germinate, and only one got to the plot and that didn't produce any flowers or beans.

Thanks Zazen - at least I know there are some about - even though they seem to be tricky little critters.

I've got some of PWs too. I got a decent crop but actually had to grow a lot of beans to get it. I didn't grow them last year. Still got a few if you'd like to try them? They are a runner, so be aware that they will cross with any runners you grow. I grew these at home (they'd have crosed at the allotment).

By the way, this year I'm growing a big white Asturian bean for the HSL. I won't be able to share any seed for a couple of years but then, if it's any good? So far I have about half germinated.
