  • Something is eating my plant leafs.

Something is eating away at my plant leafs. I have tried looking for the bug but I can not find it. Does anyone know what it could be?

And could it be harmful for my veg?

That looks like slug and snail damage on a strawberry leaf.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I've got a raised bed greenhouse. Don't see how any slugs or snails can get in there. There is no slug trail or anything in there.

If they are in pots, check underneath. You could put a half grapefruit or orange skin down on the soil, they will crawl in for shelter during the day. Then you can dispose of them. Or put a beer trap down.

I will have a look when I go in the garden. But I don't think it will have anything underneath because the strawberries are in a upside down hanging basket and it's in the raised greenhouse at the moment until the weather improves.

Could have been imported as eggs.
Check thoroughly tonight with a torch--(I am also sure its slugs or snails, or both)
Or put a few pellets in there.

Feed the soil, not the plants.

Thanks fishpond I will do. I've not seen any slug trails on the soil this morning. But will have a better look tonight.

Snails can climb walls so even a hanging basket isn't safe!

I have just been in the garden and found a slug just popping out of my upside down strawberry hanging basket. Damn slug. Going plant in it tomorrow a beer trap to see if there is any more hiding away.

It's baby snails. You are in the hands of experts on here, trust us

They are expert climbers (you'll find them clustered at the top of 8ft bean canes), and you won't always find a trail, and you won't find them if you look during daylight.
You need to go out at night with a torch

Oh good. It must of climbed in when it was in the other greenhouse. I think it was hiding in a leaf that was curled up. It was all slimy.

I am going to place a beer trap today to see if there is any more of them little buggers.

Although if the damage isn't too bad, it might be best to avoid doing this on the grounds of maintaining your sanity. How can there be so many slugs and snails? I'm surprised there's anything left in the morning.

I have collected more than 1,000 slugs and snails in one night in my small suburban garden

Bad year so far for them..I am seeing way more than last year on my nightly patrols, and lots and lots of tiny little ones...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

Yep, the pesky blighters have been 'breaking into' our house recently - around the patio doors facing onto the backdoor.

My better half is going crazy for me to sort it out, but I'm stumped!!

I'm thinking of saving them up for the poster on here called "fishpond" - he/she eats them apparently.
