    soft chitted tatties

    Hi all
    Just a query. Is it normal for seed potatoes which have been chitting for about 2/3 weeks to be a bit soft? I've got them in egg boxes in my utility room which is cold and have opened the blinds to allow light in. Sprouting nicely. On examination the other day, I noticed that some seem quite soft Is this just due to them using reserves from the actual potatoe to form sprouts or am I doing something wrong? It mainly seems to be the earlies that have this problem.

    softening a bit is ok as long as they're not oozing or squelchy cos that is bad and means the frost has got'em!

                Er..... yes. Saves me having to actually swear. Which has been the case on numerous occasions, I might add.

                    should be ok. You will probably be able to plant shortly. I won't be planting till early april as our season is well behind yours

                      Still too early to plant out round here too. I'll risk a few in the polytunnel but not in the ground.

                      Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

                      Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                        Might take a gamble this year like I did 3 years running when I plant in March and they do great, last frost date is meant to be early May but mmm. It is a pain when your all eager to plant up and the weather isn't
