  • ...and so we start again!

OK....so I lost all my tomato plants a week or so ago to frost (totally my fault for forgetting to bring them in from the blowaway). So..sowed a new lot. Last night the bl**dy cat upended the entire tray of tomato and my son's cucumber seedlings into the clean washing.... Nothing is salvageable (and the washing will have to go through the machine again...). Again, really my own fault for having a cat that has had to be locked in the house (in order to try and stop the old boy next door feeding, and "stealing" him from us - he still has the other two cats - its a long and bitter story...).

Add to all that I just realised I used the last of my Mountain Magic seeds while doing the second sowing and so cannot re-sow those

    Sigh.

OK....moan over....time to sow some more and get over it! Lets hope third time lucky!!!

I feel for you - its bad enough having 4 different cats patrolling my garden without having them causing havoc in the house as well!

Fingers crossed it will be third time lucky That's what I fear with our indoor cat that she'll knock my seeds over on the windowsill. She's normally very good but you never know - cats are a law unto themselves.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Our cat has had to live indoors since we moved. She's always been an outdoor cat, but the roads are busy here and she's not very road smart.
I've had to ban her from the conservatory because she loves knocking things over to get attention, so plants are all either in there, or under grow lights in the workshop.

To be honest you'll be having a losing battle if you want to keep the cat inside as most tend to get quite frustrated by their reduced roaming range. Obviously it suits some more than others but on the odd occasion that we've had to keep ours in he's ended up doing far more damage then when he can go out as normally. Our other cat, despite not spending anywhere near as much time outside as our current one would climb all over trays and scratch things if kept cooped up. Unfortunately for you I think that if you're wanting to keep tabs on the cat by keeping it in the house you'll have to go overboard on seed protection.

I dont like that this man steals your cats although cats do choose where they want to live but does he know they're your cats? I was talking to the local RSPCA about a foster cat I had,I wanted to know if there was a list of people that had lost their cat, there wasn't. She said cats often have 2 or more homes in their lives. I was looking after a very timid cat,he used to cuddle up to my cat when he was a kitten,he didn't have an ID chip or anything,9 months later the owner put a collar & phone number on the cat,Patrick I called him,I phoned her she was really grateful I'd looked after him, she'd been away, she was elderly so I didn't say "where have you been!" or anything,we just had a nice chat) so I stopped feeding him & kept in contact with her,to check he was with her & he was. I'd feel bad if I was owning someone else's cat,but sometimes they turn up at your house like a stray.

The cats I suspect have decided to make next door their second home as it is a lot quieter than our house! The neighbour (who definitely knows they are our cats!!) has encouraged them by feeding them! I'm more cross about the fact we are the ones shelling out for vets and flea stuff and insurance but now never see them! But yes, the cats have made a choice! We have all thee locked in at the moment, but only because they have to go to the vet for boosters. They'd never cope as indoor cats so as soon as they've been to the vets, they'll be going back out (and probably back next door). I just need to be careful about which windowsills to keep the seedlings in for a few days! Just discovered they walked through a tray of what I am hoping will be meconopsis. Luckily nothing has germinated yet so no damage done....that tray has also now been moved!

My cats are generally pretty well behaved, but occasionally they go beserk and chase each other around the flat at breakneck speed. I always lose a few toms and chillies, but most things that get knocked over just get repotted. One of my Padron chillies is decidedly wonky this year after one such incident.

They can do a fair bit of damage too and I have found over the years that some breeds will eat everything

Yeah i know. Luckily mine hasn't damaged anything yet. She's only 10 months old and although she's a little bugger sometimes, she's quite good for not damaging things.

That could all change mind haha!
