  • Snail slug and bird poo on veg?

Picked a red pepper today and it had what looked like either slug, snail or bird poo on it, fairly small splodge though.

Would you guys wash the pepper and still eat it or discard it. I am a bit of a worrier when it comes to germs and have sprayed it with dettol and washed it in hot water. Would others do this or just wash it in cold?

    Thanks

    Rob

Just wash it off in cold water. I'd worry more about eating Dettol.

Forget the Dettol. Just wash all your veg in cold water.

Like the others have said Dettol is a big no but if you feel must use a disinfectant on your veg then use vinegar instead.

Me I just use old water.

Give it a good rinse to get the Dettol off- it'll still be fine to eat!

Next time, even after washing it in water you may fell happier cooking it instead of eating it raw

I ate it, very nice. I prefer not to cook Sweet peppers. Didnt think cold water would be enough to wash off the germs from bird poo . I wont use Dettol again though.

                      You'll get there, Rob
Have you ever eaten a tomato straight from the vine, or a strawberry, still warm, from the plant? Or picked a blackberry when out for a walk and put it straight in your mouth without a thought of washing it. These really are some of the best taste experiences you can have and its a pleasure that only those who grow their own or forage can enjoy.
I'm sure most of us here taste as we pick, try it, indulge yourself - you won't die!

My daughter ( when 2, nearly 3 now) used to spot wild raspberries when on our walk down our road...cue excited pointing and me picking them off the bushes for her to eat...never did her any harm
