  • Small white worms in compost

Have just started to dig out second compost dalek and, to my horror, found it full of small white worms. There are plenty of earthworm there too, so maybe it's okay.
Anyone know what these could be and whether they are harmful in any way?

I had hundreds of them. I just added more paper and cardboard, gave it a good turning and it was finer after a week or so. As long as there are red worms too you are fine.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Thanks, Kitty. Do you know if it's okay to use the compost while they are still wriggling?

What are you planning on using the compost for Anna?

As RL says, what will you use it for? The compost will be acidic, hence the wite wrigglies.

Sorry, too many other things on over the w/e!

I shall probably only use it for soil improvement in my fishboxes and pots, so it will be mixed in with last year's spent compost. I imagine that will be okay.....?
